The twins provide a perfect experimental situation
This was perfect for Dr.Money. A perfect setup for an experiment had occurred by accident.
On twin was normal and would be raised as a boy. The other could have sex reassignment and be raised as a girl.
Dr. Money was already famous. He was born in 1921 in New Zealand. He had a Ph.D in psychology and coined the term gender identity.
Money had issues in his own upbringing. His father was cruel to him and died early. He was raised by his anti-male other and aunts. He felt guilty about being male!
In books, later Money promoted open marriages and bisexual life styles.
Wow, I am realizing that Money is sort of a different kind of person. He uses four letter words.
He wrote a book called "love maps". He was a missionary of free sex.
Enter Dr. John Money
10 months after the accidence, that caught a story on TV about Dr. Money who was telling people about sex reassignment and re-socialization of gender work going on at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
In the TV interview Money was calm , cool and collected. The Reimers were very impressed.
The show featured an attractive, well dressed transsexual. She spoke of how uch bettter she felt about herself with her new self ( After reassignment?).
Ron and Janet had a new hope. They wrote to the doctor and he replied quickly.
Oh my God
so in the circumcision go wrong Bruce had his penis burned by electric currents and it fell of a week later, Nothing left. The twin brother's circumcision was canceled. He had no ill effects.
The experts said they was no hope for reconstruction. There was no hope to live a normal life.
He must "live apart" with no possibility of a replacement that could do anything but pass urine.
He was taken to the Mayo clinic in Rochester, NY.
The parents could not talk about what happened to there family and friends. Ron triend at work but they made jokes about it.
David's family background
His grandparents worked on a farm.
In those days if a child ( or teen worked) the parents would take their pay check in for the family.
David's mother, Janet, had that experience.
Janet's mother told her it was a sin to smile!
David's parents, Ron and Janet, both had the experience as teen of having their parents move out of town, back to the farm, to protect there children from "cars, girls, beer and Rock n Roll".
When Ron and Janet met they were in there teen living separately. But they started to have sex and she go pregnant. The got married but not in a Mennonite church! Ron was 19 she was 18.
They found out twins were on the way. (The both had odd jobs, I don't think they graduated from high school)
Ron doubled his wages by getting a union job.
Janet found out she had pregnancy related high blood pressure ( toxemia).
By induced labor the twins, identical, were born on Aug. 22 1965: Bruce and Brian.
Later at 7 months both boys were diagnosed with phimosis -- a condition where passing water is difficult because the foreskin is closed (closing).
I am reading the book AS NATURE MADE HIM
Notes from As Nature Made Him By John Colapino
Iam taking a class in the biology of sexual reproduction at Ohlone and this book is recommended reading. I am just getting started and am so excited. The author is already my hero.
Davids parents were Mennonites.
Early Mennonites we back to basics. The took Jesus' sermon on the mount very seriously. And practiced it and were punished and killed for it.
David's parents were decedents of the wave of Mennomites that migrated to Winnipeg.
